Geoffrey Yang - WritingSunrise '24

“I went to Sunrise ‘24 and all I got was like ten life-changing epiphanies…

(and this t-shirt)”.

Here’s what I loved:

1. 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

It’s hard to know what to say when exceptional becomes normal.

2. 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴.

… makes inspiration powerful.

The most memorable companies sold a dream.

Like Gether, where I experienced the admin struggles of parenthood (even though I’m nowhere in the target audience).

Or Gilmour Space Technologies, where we saw:
- Rocket testing in the backyard
- A malfunction just 8 seconds before takeoff
- A dream of launching Australia's first manmade orbital rocket.

3. 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗶𝘁𝘆.

It’s the best kind of adventure.

Within the chaos, I found my cosmos:
❌ Completely scrapping my planned event agenda
🥂 With people, in Sunrise chats & Sunset mixers (thanks Brendan!)
🌃 Turning a 10 min chat w/ Jake in the day to a 2hr night stroll

So that’s this post.

In the words of Joe Brumm, the creator of Bluey, it’s “Something that I started, I finished, and I had fun with”.

What'd I miss? Do you have any hopes for the ecosystem in 2024?
